| Most of the wines from the Charles Baur estate are made from a single grape variety, in a way that brings outs the particular qualities of each vineyard. We offer several categories of wine. Selection wine : This wine is covered by the Alsace appellation. It chiefly develops the properties of the grape variety and expresses the subtle characteristics of the vineyards. Alsace Grand-Cru : Eichberg and Pfersigberg of Eguisheim : The subsoil of the Eichberg vineyards is rich is silica, limestone and sandstone, giving the wine an extraordinary aromatic complexity that combines power and finesse. The subsoil of Pfersigberg is rich in limestone, producing elegant, fine wine that is rich in floral aromas. Alsace Grand-Cru : Brand of Turckheim : The wines issued from the Grand Cru Brand, the south east terroir rich in granit of Turckheim, have a remarkable finesse and an intense minerality. Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles : We elaborate these wines with Gewurztraminer grapes. Vendanges tardives (late harvest) wines use grapes affected by botrytis, while making Sélection de Grains Nobles involves painstakingly selecting individual berries that are severely affected by botrytis. These dessert wines are rare, exceptionally complex and keep well for many years. Crémant d’Alsace Blanc et Rosé : Crémant d'Alsace is an effervescent wine that is prepared using the same traditional aristocratic method of its cousin from Champagne. After 24 months (for the Crémant d'Alsace Blanc de Blancs ) and 12 months (for the Crémant d'Alsace Rosé) of maturing on racks, the sediment is removed from the bottles and the bottles are released for sale.
