Fronenberg

Blessed with an exceptional argilo-calcareous soil, I have very early memories of my grandfather, Charles Baur, telling me of this great “terroir” when I was very young. Upon first taste, the wines are round in the mouth dominated by a taste of candied fruit. They rest long on the palate, are of a great finesse and have a minerality which reflect the vines’ roots in the limestone.

To be found outlying the neighbouring village of Herrlisheim-près-Colmar, this is a terroir which benefits from an easterly and northerly orientation with a dry and windy microclimate. The brown limestone soil rests on an aggregate itself predominantly limestone but which also has sandstone within. The topsoil (in which clay is evident) is rich in limestone deposits.
